There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Myrtle Beach condos on the oceanfront. Before the internet, vacationers had two choices...read the Chamber of Commerce hotel book and choose blindly from the pictures, or spend time going from resort to resort looking at places to stay.
Not only do you have to choose the resort, but you also have to decide whether to stay in North Myrtle Beach or Myrtle Beach proper. The two towns are quite different. North Myrtle Beach is now just about 99% condos and only a small handful of hotels. Myrtle Beach is a bit more crowded, just due to being bigger and having more condo resorts to fill with vacationers.
Myrtle Beach seems a little older, and the south end is not as nice as other parts of the Grand Strand. Most of North Myrtle Beach is new and shiny, and other than the little area known as "Atlantic Beach", (which vacationers mostly stay out of) there are no areas of run-down old hotels to book by accident. North Myrtle Beach has Barefoot Landing, Alabama Theatre, and The House of Blues. Myrtle Beach has Broadway at the Beach, the Carolina Opry, Dixie Stampede, and the Palace Theatre. There's no solid reasons to pick one over the other, except personal choice.
